[ARCHIVED] Rabies Web Page of The Month

Child and horse

Rabies is a communicable disease transmitted to mammals through the saliva of an infected animal, usually through a bite. Foxes, skunks, raccoons and bats are known carriers, but it’s possible for other animals to transmit rabies as well. While the law in most places requires that dogs be vaccinated against the disease, there’s usually no requirement that other animals, such as cattle and horses, be protected. That doesn’t mean vaccination isn’t a good idea.
