The Perfect Food

What would the perfect food be like? It would…
  • Provide complete nutrition
  • Prevent illness
  • Combat obesity
  • Increase IQ
  • Be completely organic – no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners
  • Be easy to acquire & affordable, maybe even free!
You have probably guessed that breast milk is the perfect food for babies, but did you know that the benefits of breastfeeding are not limited to childhood? It may seem unlikely that a mother's choice to breastfeed will impact the health of her children into adulthood, but it is true. Adults who were breastfed as babies have lower rates of hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes - chronic diseases that take a toll on millions of Americans.

The Finger Lakes Breastfeeding Partnership recognizes the impact of breastfeeding on lifelong health. Members from seven counties actively support and promote breastfeeding in our region. In addition to hosting Certified Lactation Counselor Classes, the group provides education and expertise to nursing schools, hospitals, physician offices, child care centers and workplaces. For more information about breastfeeding or the partnership, contact Christy Richards a 585-396-4343.
