Facts about Vaccines

  • Immunization is one of the world's most effective public health initiatives (UNICEF).
  • Worldwide, immunization prevents 2-3 million deaths a year in all age groups.
  • Not all the world's children are fortunate enough to receive vaccines routinely available in the United States. In 2011, 1.5 million children died of vaccine-preventable diseases across the globe.
  • Whooping Cough - Are you pregnant? Your child can be born with protection from this very serious disease if you get vaccinated. Read more...
  • In the decade before the measles vaccination program began in the United States, 3–4 million people were infected each year; 400–500 died, 48,000 were hospitalized, and 1,000 developed chronic disability.
  • In the United States, we are currently experiencing a large, multi-state outbreak of measles linked to an amusement park in California. Read about the top 4 things parents need to know about measles, here.
  • Protect your little one and vaccinate on time!

Nervous about your child's vaccination visit?

Babies and toddlers are active; they seldom hold still. Additionally, toddlers are sometimes strong-willed and can be uncooperative in the doctor's office. You can make your child's vaccine visit less traumatic. Click here for tips about making things go smoother.

Your child's vaccine experience will be quicker and less painful if you are able to gently restrain him while he gets his shot. This is easier to do than you might think. Click here for examples of ways to comfortably hold your child during vaccination.
