Calling or sending a Text to "9-1-1" allows any County resident in need of emergency assistance, immediate access to the appropriate police, fire or ambulance agency. Call when you can, text when you can't!

The Ontario County 9-1-1 Center is located in the Sheriff's Office on Ontario Street in Canandaigua. Our area of responsibility encompasses all or part of 34 Fire Districts, 11 EMS Agencies, 4 ALS providersCanandaigua City Police Department, Geneva City Police Department, The Sheriff's Office, The New York State Police, and 5 Village Police Departments. All wireline telephones and wireless (cellular) calls placed from within Ontario County are routed to our center.

In the event of an emergency that citizens need to be informed of, Ontario County 9-1-1 utilizes an outbound notification system called Hyper-Reach®. The system has been used to advise of water main breaks, lost children and dangerous conditions as well as many others. This system allows us to choose an address, address range or geographical area and send a message to everyone selected at a rate of 10,000 telephone numbers per hour. If you receive one of these calls, please just follow the directions given and do not call 9-1-1 unless you have an emergency or are directed to do so. The Hyper-Reach® system uses landline (wired) telephone numbers provided by the telephone companies that serve Ontario County. If you utilize a TDD/TTY or if you use a wireless (cell) phone, digital (VoIP) phone or a service like Magic Jack® and no longer have a "regular" wired home phone please consider registering your phone number here to receive these important messages.

Ontario County is comprised of 16 Towns (Bristol, Canadice, Canandaigua, East Bloomfield, Farmington, Geneva, Gorham, Hopewell, Manchester, Naples, Phelps, Richmond, Seneca, South Bristol, Victor and West Bloomfield); 8 Villages (Bloomfield, Clifton Springs, Manchester, Naples, Phelps, Rushville, Shortsville and Victor) and 2 Cities (Canandaigua and Geneva). All or part of 5 Finger Lakes lie within our boundaries (Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua and Seneca). Twenty-seven miles of the New York State Thruway traverse the northern portion of the county including four exits (42, 43, 44 and 45). There are 17 school districts and two colleges, Hobart and William Smith College and Finger Lakes Community College.

The Ontario County 9-1-1 Center was the first county 9-1-1 center to receive accreditation from the New York State Sheriff's Association.

In 2004 we were one of the frst two 9-1-1 centers in western New York to be able to locate cellular 9-1-1 callers. Numerous lives have been saved with this ability since then.
