How do I get my bail money back?

1) Save the bail receipt. (treat the receipt like cash)

2) The bail money will be released to the individual that paid the bail after the case has concluded. (This could take several months or longer.)

3) When the case has concluded, take the bail receipt to the court listed on the receipt. (Do not come to the jail, we do not have the ability to return bail money to you.)

4) The court will retain 3% of the bail that was paid, and return the remainder to you. (This is in addition to the 9% surcharge if paid by Credit Card)

5) In the case of a remote bail (Bail paid by phone with a credit card). The money will be returned to the to the incarcerated person that was bailed.

1. How do I make an appointment to visit someone in jail?: You can make an appointment by calling (585) 396-1800 or (315) 781-1966, via email at JailVisits@co.ontario.ny.us. or in person at the jail lobby at:

Visit days are Saturday and Sunday. You may call any day between 8am and 9pm to schedule a visit. Please note: While listening to our Automated Information System there may be pauses in the information. You have NOT been disconnected!

Email requests must include the following information;
1. Your full name
2. The inmate's name
3. The date and time you are requesting to visit
4. A telephone number and email address to confirm or deny your request.

3. Can someone tell me the condition of an inmate?: Due to HIPAA laws, staff cannot release any information that may relate to an inmate's medical, physical, or mental well-being. The best way to see if your loved one is all right is to write a letter to them.

5. Do inmates have access to telephones?

Yes. Inmates in all housing have access to telephones daily. Hours of telephone use depend upon the inmate's housing assignment and/or behavioral status. Security and support staff cannot deliver or pass messages from home to inmates in the facility. Inmates are able to make outgoing telephone calls only. The inmate telephone system does not allow incoming telephone calls.

**Effective December 13, 2017, TeleVisit will add sales tax to each video visit. This tax will be itemized in your emailed session notification.

9. I sent a package to an Inmate, and I received some of its' contents back through the mail, why?: Some items that are received in packages at the Jail may be considered contraband by Department or State standards and must be returned. Some simple everyday items are strictly prohibited from entering detention facilites; such as gum, paper clips, stickers, and tape. Please refer to the Information Sheet for complete details

10. How do I apply for a job as a Corrections Officer?: All job specifications and applications are available at the Ontario County Human Resources Department, 3019 County Complex Dr., Canandaigua, NY 14424. 11. Are there any volunteer opportunities available to work with the Inmates?

Volunteers are needed to assist Inmates with Life Skills and Community Transition. Some examples or need are; Art or Music therapy, Book Club, Access to Community Resources, Practice Interviewing, Spanish Culture and Goal Setting. If you have the experience, training, or feel you have the drive to help others, download and complete the (Volunteer packet and return it to the address as indicated. 12. How do I get to the Jail?

The Ontario County Jail is located at 3045 County Complex Dr. in Canandaigua.

From Geneva
If you are coming from Geneva take State Route 5/US Route 20, west to County Road 47, approximately 8.5 miles from Ponderosa. Turn right on County Road 47 (sign for Hopewell Center) and travel for approximately 1.7 miles then turn left on County Road 46 (first left hand turn). Take County Road 46 for approximately 1.5 miles and County Complex Dr. will be on your left, turn in here and the Jail will be your second turn to the left.

From Canandaigua
Take State Route 5/US Route 20, east (also known as Eastern Blvd) to County Road 10 (Community Bank on the corner). Turn left on County Road 10, travel for approximately 0.8 miles to the flashing red light at County Road 46. Turn right on County Road 46 and travel approximately 1.5 miles and County Complex Dr. will be on your right, turn in here and the Jail will be your second turn to the left.

13. I am sentenced intermittently, what may I bring with me?

A religious medal no larger than 1 inch by 11/2 inches, with a chain no larger in diameter than a pencil lead. No sharp edges or stones.
Married inmates may wear a plain wedding band without stones or sharp edges.
Inmates on prescription medications should bring in the medication in the prescription bottle. Jail medical staff will verify medication and make any determinations regarding them.
Inmates actively attending school may receive Sergeant’s approval to bring in a Paperback textbook based upon proof of need.

14. How do I bail someone out of jail?: You can now bail a person out online, over the phone or in person. Bailing someone out on line: go to www.GovPayNow.com. Over the phone: 1-877-EZBAIL5 (1-877-392-2455) You will need the inmate’s criminal history number, bail amount, date of birth, court and judge information and pay location code (1996). You can obtain this information by calling the Ontario County Jail at 396-1800. Bailing someone out in person: 1) You must come to the jail lobby with photo identification (i.e. Drivers License) and payment 2) Bail is accepted in the form of cash or credit/debit card or combination of both 3) Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover cards are accepted 4) If paying by credit card, you will be charged a non-refundable 9% service fee thru GovPayNet who handles the credit card transaction 5) Only the card holder may use the credit/debit card, no lending of cards will be allowed When you arrive at the jail you will be asked for your photo identification, name, address, employer/occupation, phone number and form of payment. If paying by credit card, your card will then be swiped thru the credit/debt card reader and the information on your card will be verified against your photo identification.

18. How can I add money to an inmate's account?

Money can be added to an inmate's account in one of three ways.

1 - In person at the kiosk located in the Jail Lobby

2 - Via US mail - Postal Money order ONLY - must be addressed to the Ontario County Jail, Commissary Fund, 3045 County Complex Dr. Canandaigua, NY 14424 c/o Inmates Name - See example below.
